ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

>> ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY, Civil Litigation and Workers’ Compensation

McCandlish Holton aggressively defends a wide variety of clients and cases throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia in all state and federal courts through our Civil Litigation and Workers’ Compensation practice groups. Currently, we are seeking one associate attorney for civil litigation and another for workers’ compensation.

Our Attorneys work in a team environment that is fast-paced, high-pressured and deadline intensive.  Our Attorneys must possess strong verbal and written communication, research, organizational and analytical skills. They should be detail-oriented and results-driven team players.

Successful candidates will have demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills, superior research and writing skills and reading comprehension at an advanced level. The ideal candidate will have 0-3 years of experience and recent law school graduates with pending bar results will be considered.

REQUIRED:

  • Admission to Virginia state bar (Recent law school graduates with pending bar results will be considered).
  • 0-3 years of experience. 
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.  

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Managing multiple cases from file opening to hearing.
  • Consult with clients and represent clients in trial.
  • Drafting briefs and other legal documents.
  • Drafting discovery responses and complaints.
  • Interviewing key witnesses.
  • Conducting depositions.
  • Gathering evidence to be used at trial.
  • Develop legal arguments, motions and other case filings.
  • Manage/access case file indexing system for all ongoing and completed cases.
  • Monitor changes to government guidelines or regulations and submit reports on pertinent changes.
  • Utilize existing files and a variety of other research resources to develop information for pending cases.
  • Prolonged sitting, reading, typing, writing and talking.

>> ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY, Immigration

The Immigration Practice Group at McCandlish Holton provides visa services and "day-to-day" immigration advice to businesses, colleges and universities, school systems, professors and researchers, and individuals across the country and around the world.  We advise U.S. and foreign clients on all aspects of obtaining U.S. work visas as well as the hiring and transfer of international personnel. 

Our Attorneys work in a team environment that is fast-paced, high-pressured and deadline intensive. Successful candidates will have the following skills and experience:

>> Law Firm Administrator

Our firm of 35 attorneys (80 employees total) is seeking an exceptional and experienced Law Firm Administrator. The ideal candidate will have experience working in an administrative capacity within a law firm with a strong focus on the financial responsibilities associated with managing a law firm. Anyone interested in serving a more focused role similar to a Chief Financial Officer is welcome to apply.

Day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overall administrative management of firm
  • Manage all operational accounting functions: budgeting, payroll, cash flow, payables and receivables, bookkeeping, reconciliations, financials
  • Administer 401(k) plan, and annual filings
  • Annual income and sales tax planning, execution and filings
  • Manage Firm insurances
  • Manage equipment leases, equipment purchases and vendor contracts
  • Process HSA withholding and firm contributions with each payroll

Our Immigration Practice Group seeks a writer to assist high-achieving international clients in fields such as scientific research, business, medicine, athletics, entertainment, arts, and humanities who are applying for visas to live and work in the United States.  Our law firm works with U.S. and foreign clients on all aspects of obtaining U.S. work visas as well as the hiring and transfer of international personnel. 

This position will involve working with top professionals in various fields, helping prepare and edit documents to support their immigration filings. 

REQUIRED:

  • A 4-year college degree

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Work with clients to help prepare summaries/descriptions of client achievements, with the goal of making achievements understandable and relatable to a general audience.
  • Assist attorney in preparation of immigration filings, including reviewing and organizing client documentation, performing background research as needed, and assisting in preparation of forms, supporting documents, and letters.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with attorneys and other team members to prioritize and organize workload.

Individuals who majored/minored in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Technical Writing, or another writing intensive area of study are encouraged to apply.
