Jonathan W.E. Thomas is an associate in the Litigation practice group. His practice primarily focuses on civil litigation, trucking defense, commercial litigation, personal injury, and retail and products liability. He received his Bachelor's from Texas A&M University and his J.D. from the Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, VA.

In his final year at W&L Law, Jonathan was one of eight students selected to work in the Advanced Administrative Litigation Clinic, where the student case workers fully litigated claims for benefits under the Black Lung Benefits Act. Jonathan took the lead on several cases while at the clinic, during which he represented a client in a full hearing, handled discovery, led witness examinations, drafted motions, wrote a closing brief, corresponded with clients, expert witnesses and opposing counsel, and oversaw general case management. He also co-authored a brief for a case in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, which successfully defeated the opposing argument, receiving a favorable opinion from the Court.

Prior to joining McCandlish Holton, Jonathan served as an intern for the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Colonial Heights, where he represented the Commonwealth as an in-court prosecutor. He also served as a Judicial Intern with Brian Clarke, an administrative judge for the EEOC in the Charlotte, NC district, where he assisted the judge in drafting orders. During a legal internship with Disability Rights Louisiana in the summer after his first year at W&L Law, Jonathan drafted research papers on Louisiana law, rights, and protections. Jonathan’s other activities at W&L Law included serving as a lead articles editor for the Washington and Lee Law Review, and as a student academic success advisor in his final year.

When not assisting clients, Jonathan enjoys watching and playing sports, spending time outdoors, reading mysteries and thrillers, and carpentry.
