Laura Lee Garrett is a partner in the firm’s Real Estate and Finance Group. With over 17 years of experience in the retail real estate industry, her practice focuses on shopping center and mixed use development, real estate investment, leasing and finance. She has worked as in-house real estate counsel for two Fortune 500 retailers, allowing her to experience first hand the business side of retail real estate as well as the operations of large public companies. Laura Lee represents investors, developers, tenants and lenders in a wide variety of complex transactions including anchor tenant leasing, tax-deferred exchanges, mergers and acquisitions, real estate purchases and sales, historic tax credits rehabilitation projects, and condominium development. She also has significant experience in office and warehouse leasing and finance. Laura Lee is the firm's "resident expert" on Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, and counsels both secured parties and debtors in secured transactions.
Laura Lee is an adjunct professor at William and Mary Law School, teaching Real Estate Transactions. She was selected to be included in “Virginia Super Lawyers” in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Laura Lee is actively involved with the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and is on the Executive Committee of the Richmond District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), chairing the Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) program. She is a member of the Richmond Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) and has served on the Executive Board in several different roles. She serves on the Board of Directors and the Real Estate Development Committee of the Better Housing Coalition and is Vice President of the Endowment Board of the Memorial Child Guidance Clinic (ChildSavers).
Laura Lee is a member of the American Bar Association (Real Property Section) and the Richmond Bar Association (Real Estate Section).
Laura Lee also teams up with the firm's health care group in representing clients in healthcare facilities development. She is experienced in nursing home and medical office building development, including business structure, land acquisition, leasing, financing and disposition. She regularly represents specialized medical practice groups in leasing and purchasing highly customized facilities. |
